Racegoers can look forward to a super summer of racing in Geelong next year thanks to a funding boost from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines attended the Geelong Cup today to announce support for Super Saturday on the Coast – a summer racing spectacular to be held on 5 January 2025.
The Labor Government is providing $80,000 courtesy of its Major Racing Events Fund to expand the race day attractions and entertainment for the event.
The Geelong Racing Club is also contributing $55,000 towards the race day, with Racing Victoria also providing $25,000.
Key highlights for the event, which is expected to draw a crowd of 7,000, will include live entertainment, carnival rides, a petting zoo and roving performers - making it the perfect day out for families holidaying in Geelong and along the Bellarine and the Surf Coast.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided almost $5 million to support thoroughbred racing at Geelong Racecourse, including $4 million for 25 infrastructure projects and $858,000 for 25 race meetings.
The thoroughbred racing industry in the Geelong region generates nearly $91 million for the Victorian economy and helps sustain almost 700 full-time equivalent jobs.
