The Allan Labor Government is moving forward with important works to unlock and restore contaminated and underutilised land to create new opportunities for regional communities in Ballarat and Bendigo.

At the former Ballarat Saleyards site, the search is underway for a contractor to carry out remediation and demolition works, following the completion of detailed site investigations.

These works will pave the way for future redevelopment, enabling a new jobs precinct and more homes to be built in Ballarat in the future.

Local contractors are encouraged to participate in the open tender process, set to launch in early April.

Detailed site investigations are also underway at the former mining site on Chum Street, Bendigo to inform future remediation and the healing of Country in partnership with the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DJAARA).

Healing Country on the land will deliver long-term benefits for the Traditional Owners, the Dja Dja Wurrung people, and the wider Bendigo community.

The Ballarat and Bendigo communities will be kept informed ahead of any planned site activities.
