Victorians seeking the help of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) will find all its key services under one roof from next year — helping streamline operations and improving the justice experience for all.
Attorney-General Sonya Kilkenny today released the designs for the new headquarters and confirmed Kane as the builders for the project.
The new headquarters will bring together VCAT’s metropolitan hearing and mediation rooms to one location at 308 La Trobe Street thanks to a $106 million investment from the Allan Labor Government.
Designed in consultation with users and staff, the new venue will provide remote witness facilities so people can participate from the comfort of their homes, as well as a separate entry and suite for at-risk and vulnerable users participating in person.
The building will also feature improved accessibility, with better parking and convenient public transport connections.
A dedicated space for Victorian Legal Aid, State Trustees and the Office of the Public Advocate will strengthen access to legal and support services.
The venue will also house the new Rental Dispute Resolution Victoria (RDRV) service when it launches later this year. RDRV will offer a fast and affordable way for renters, rental providers, and real estate agents to resolve disputes over rent, damages, repairs, and bonds.
More than 60 per cent of disputes are expected to be resolved through RDRV — reducing the burden on VCAT while giving Victorians a faster and cheaper way to resolve rental matters.
VCAT handles more than 75,000 cases annually and helps people resolve a wide range of disputes efficiently and fairly.
VCAT is expected to begin operating from the new venue in 2026.
