Paper and packaging company Opal has opened the doors to its new manufacturing facility in Wodonga, backing hundreds of jobs with support from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney said the new $140 million facility at Logic Wodonga would create more than 400 jobs.
The manufacturing site – located along Hume’s freight corridor – will produce recycled and recyclable boxes and packaging to meet increased demand from businesses looking for sustainable packaging options.
The new facility was designed with sustainability at its center – it is powered using solar and rainwater harvesting. More than 450 workers were employed to construct the sustainable site.
Opal is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest paper and packaging manufacturers. As part of the Nippon Paper Group, the Wodonga facility bolsters the company’s strong local workforce.
The new site adds to Victoria’s $33 billion manufacturing industry – made up of 24,000 businesses, supporting more than 260,000 jobs and $23.9 billion in exports.
