Voting is open for the new name of the Huntly-Fosterville Road bridge in Huntly, the first of 40 high-risk rail bridges that will be renamed to make them easier to find in an emergency.
Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, today announced the five names shortlisted from more than 60 nominations received by Victorian rail asset owner VicTrack.
The final shortlisted nominations for the VicTrack Bridge Naming Competition public vote are:
- Bill Pacholli Bridge - a World War one veteran and well-known local identity
- Burgoyne Bridge - unofficial name used by residents, possibly named after Thomas Burgoyne, a local builder and gold-rush era digger
- Esma Turner Bridge - a long-term resident of Huntly, and a deeply committed local historian
- Dhelk Baring Bridge - Dja Dja Wurrung indigenous word meaning ‘good pathway or track’
- Ellis Bridge - a pioneering family in the district.
