The Allan Labor Government’s West Gate Tunnel Project has teamed up with V8 Supercars to test drive the new connections which will transform how people move between Melbourne’s west and the city.
V8 Supercar drivers Cam Waters and Anton de Pasquale toured the new Wurundjeri Way extension and elevated ramp connecting CityLink to Footscray Road, which will open later this year.
The Melbourne SuperSprint returns as the main support for the 2025 Formula 1 Grand Prix, including a standalone race day Thursday as part Round 2 of the Supercars Championship.
To celebrate this collaboration, the West Gate Tunnel Project will be making a pit stop at the F1 Grand Prix, giving race-goers a chance to experience the future of Melbourne’s infrastructure through an immersive 3D driving simulator.
This innovative experience gives the public the chance to virtually drive the expanded West Gate Freeway and new twin tunnels, previewing the faster and more seamless routes the project will offer once completed.
Race-goers will also have the chance to chat with West Gate Tunnel Project staff across the four days to learn about new travel options when the project crosses the finish line in late 2025.
Melbournians who are unable to attend the race will get the chance to take the driving simulator for a spin at shopping centres and festivals in Melbourne’s west this year.
To learn more, visit the Big Build website for more details on where the simulators will be next.
The West Gate Tunnel Project will transform travel in Melbourne’s west, providing a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, delivering a much-needed second river crossing, reducing congestion, and removing 9,000 trucks a day from local roads.
