I have appointed Steven Kingshott as the second municipal monitor to Glenelg Shire Council.
Mr Kingshott will work alongside Jim Gifford, with their three-month appointment to expire on 13 February 2024.
The monitors will support good governance at Glenelg Shire Council and guide recruitment of a new chief executive officer, providing a report to me at the end of their term.
Mr Kingshott brings significant experience to his role having worked in senior positions with responsibility for organisational development and risk management at companies including ExxonMobil while also having served as a councillor and mayor at Williamstown City Council for a decade and a board member at Melbourne Water.
The monitors’ terms of reference direct the monitors to assist councillors in the understanding and execution of their statutory roles and responsibilities as representatives of the community and to guide best-practice engagement between members of the council and between councillors and shire staff.
The terms of reference for the monitors is available at localgovernment.vic.gov.au/council-governance/independent-reports.
