Statement From The Premier

Hong Lim, Member for Clarinda, has advised me that he will not be seeking re-election in 2018.

Elected to Parliament in 1996, Hong has been a proud champion for families in the south eastern suburbs for more than 20 years.

Serving as the Member for Clayton and then Clarinda, Hong has been key to delivering the new Monash Children’s Hospital, as well as securing upgrades to local schools including Cheltenham Secondary College.

As the first person of Chinese and Cambodian heritage elected to our Parliament, Hong has dedicated himself to ensuring that Victorians of every background have a voice in government.

Hong furthered that work as Parliamentary Secretary for Victorian Communities and since December 2014, as Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Asia Engagement.

In this role, Hong strengthened engagement with some of our closest neighbours, and secured an official apology for the unjust policies endured by Chinese migrants during the Victorian gold-rush.

I thank Hong for his many years of service, and wish him the best for the future.
