Community sports clubs at Albert Park are slashing their energy bills thanks to the successful roll-out of a solar panel and batteries funded by the Allan Labor Government.
Nine batteries and 196 solar panels have successfully been installed on the rooftops of nine sporting facilities at Albert Park which are now generating and storing their own cheap renewable energy.
The Labor Government has invested $1.6 million towards the installation, significantly reduce energy costs for the sporting clubs – allowing local clubs to invest those saving back into their sports programs.
The new solar and battery systems allow clubs to harness the free energy from the sun during daylight hours, and store it in the battery to be used during the evenings. This will significantly reduce their energy bills, especially for things such as sports field lighting.
The nine facilities that now have solar include, Beaurepaire Pavilion, Carmelite Tennis Club Pavilion, Clarke Shields Pavilion, David Mandie Pavilion, Holdsworth Pavilion, Pavilion at Field 18/19, Plant Williamson Rowing Pavilion, Sea Scouts Building and Stuart King Pavilion.
Albert Park is one of the busiest and most diverse sporting precincts in Victoria, offering anything from land-based to water sports across 16 different sporting codes.
Situated on Bunurong Country, Albert Park is a vibrant hub for local sporting activities, attracting thousands of volunteers and spectators each year.
The solar power initiative is one of several projects aimed at supporting the continued growth and sustainability of Albert Park’s community sporting sector.
