Local bowls enthusiasts can look forward to more fun on the green all year round, with a new synthetic green set to breathe life into Glenroy Bowls Club.
Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Pascoe Vale Lizzie Blandthorn today to announce $100,000 from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund to help deliver the project.
Bowls is more popular than ever and local communities like Glenroy deserve modern and safe facilities.
The club’s green has been resurfaced several times since opening in 1956, but the switch to a synthetic surface is well overdue.
Glenroy’s struggling natural green will soon be replaced with a more durable weather-proof synthetic surface, which will ensure the club can cater for even more bowlers of all ages and abilities.
It will also create new opportunities for the club to host more competitions and attract more members.
Thanks to this upgrade, the club has plans to deliver junior and female development programs, group coaching, development squads and competitions to cater to its range of members.
The Labor Government’s $120 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is upgrading grounds so clubs like Glenroy Bowls Club can cater for growing demand and get the facilities they deserve.
