School Upgrades At Beechworth And Rutherglen

Students in Beechworth and Rutherglen are a step closer to having the facilities they deserve thanks to a major investment by the Andrews Labor Government.

Minster for Education James Merlino and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today visited Rutherglen High School and Beechworth Secondary College to discuss plans to upgrade both schools.

Rutherglen High School received $1.6 million in the 2016-17 Victoria Budget to start planning for a a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths centre, as well as a new junior school.

Javara Westland Partnership has been appointed as the architects for the project with building work expected to get underway in early-2017.

Beechworth Secondary College is one of 35 schools to share in $12 million to start planning a major upgrade, which includes new science and food technology facilities, and a new library.

DWP Suters have been appointed as the architect for the project and is currently developing the designs.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian students gets the opportunity for a great education and every community has access to a great school.

There are now 42 new government schools and hundreds of school upgrades in the construction pipeline following the Labor Government’s record $1.8 billion investment in school infrastructure.

This school building boom will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure all Victorian families have access to a great school no matter where they live.
