Victorian social housing tenants and groups have been recognised for their outstanding community contribution at a special ceremony at Parliament House.
Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley today joined members of the social housing community for the Frances Penington and Molly Hadfield awards ceremony.
Both awards recognise public and community housing tenants who go above and beyond to connect and support people in their neighbourhood.
The Ashburton, Ashwood and Chadstone Public Tenant Group won the Frances Penington Award.
The group was recognised for its tireless work advocating for local tenants through forums and information sessions. It also runs the ‘Public and Proud’ social event to encourage community participation.
Merri Outreach Support Service food bank volunteers took out the Molly Hadfield Award.
The service manages support programs at a public housing estate in Barkly Street in Brunswick, and every week provides a food bank for tenants and the surrounding public housing community.
The Frances Penington Award honours the late Frances Penington – a Commissioner of the Housing Commission and the first woman appointed to the board of a statutory authority in Victoria.
The Molly Hadfield Award is named after the late Mary (Molly) Hadfield – a dedicated advocate for public housing tenants.
