The Allan Labor Government has delivered a new state-of-the-art ambulance station in Manor Lakes, giving the hardworking paramedics the modern workplace they need to quickly respond to local emergencies and save lives.

Minister for Ambulance Services Mary-Anne Thomas and Member for Werribee John Lister officially opened the station which will be home to more than 35 paramedics and provide 24-hour care to the growing community.

The new station will reduce demand on Werribee’s existing ambulance station and features a four-bay ambulance garage, two rest and recline areas, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and additional car parking.

The new station is part of the Labor Government’s $279 million investment to deliver 46 new or upgraded ambulance stations – with another five stations on the way.

In addition to new ambulance stations, the Labor Government has increased the on-road paramedic workforce by more than 50 per cent – equal to almost 2,200 more paramedics.

In November, 84 new graduates and 15 new experienced paramedics joined Ambulance Victorias ranks, with the experienced paramedics already on the road in regional Victoria to help meet ongoing demand for emergency care.

It comes as the largest ever intake into the Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) Bridging Program hit the road this month – the 30 paramedics join Victoria’s 586-strong MICA team to deliver more specialised, lifesaving care.

Australia’s first Paramedic Practitioners are also currently studying at Monash University, with legislation passed in February to enshrine the new role into law and fulfil a 2022 election commitment – once on the road next year, they will be able to assess, diagnose and treat patients in regional and rural Victoria next year.

The Labor Government’s recently announced the Standards for Safe and Timely Ambulance and Emergency Care for Victorians are also being rolled out at 17 major metro and regional health services to support the faster handover of patients arriving at emergency departments via ambulance.

These investments in workforce and infrastructure are as important as ever, as the latest quarterly performance data revealed sustained demand, with nearly 100,000 Code One cases – an increase of 3,000 from last year.
