Residents of Ballarat West will have a dedicated police presence as Victoria Police officially move into a new state-of-the-art station to fight crime and deal with the scourges of family violence and ice.

Minister for Police Lisa Neville said the facility will provide Ballarat police with the resources they need to protect and serve the local community.

The station is located at 1 Mirelle Drive, Winter Valley, and will support a stronger police presence and response across the Ballarat area.

The $8 million station, built by Ballarat construction company A W Nicholson, will be home to general duties officers, staff as well as operational support units.

Police are now well-placed to respond to the changing needs of the community as more people move into growth suburbs including Lucas, Winter Valley, Alfredton and Delacombe.

The station will complement the 24-hour Ballarat Police Station in Dana Street, giving police greater flexibility to target and respond to crime.

New custody officers stationed at Ballarat Police Station are helping to free up local police so they can get back into the community and respond to crime.

The Andrews Labor Government has made huge investments for Victoria Police, including the $596 million Public Safety Package announced in the Victorian Budget 2016/17.

It includes funding for 406 new police, mobile technology and intelligence systems and $36.8 million for regional police station replacements and upgrades.

Since November 2014, the Labor Government has funded more than 1150 police personnel. We are delivering on our promise to give police the resources and the powers they need to keep Victorians safe.
