Students in Moe have brand new state-of-the-art classrooms thanks to an innovative new Andrews Labor  Government school building program.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Moe South Street Primary School to officially open its new architect-designed modular building.

Within 7 months of announcing funding, the ageing staff facilities and classrooms have been demolished, replaced with this state-of-the-art new building.

It will include three new larger classrooms with a breakout space to give teachers more flexibility in their classes, as well as new staff and student toilets to meet the growing school’s increased need.

These facilities were delivered as part of the Labor Government’s Asbestos Removal Program.

Using modular buildings is a fast and efficient way to help schools replace older buildings containing asbestos with brand new facilities.

The buildings are made off-site and delivered to the school so teaching is not interrupted and on-site safety risks are reduced. The Victorian School Building Authority worked with Moe South Street Primary School on building details such as colour and location.

Moe South Street Primary School opened in 1951, and has recently experienced strong growth in student numbers with 342 enrolled this year compared to 282 in 2015.

The project is part of a $2.5 billion investment by the Labor Government in the past three Budgets to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,200 school upgrades and 56 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
