Scouts across Victoria will be searching high and low for eligible containers thanks to a new competition being launched by the Allan Labor Government’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic).
Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos launched the competition today at the CDS Vic Depot at Mount Waverley – which will help scouts raise funds whilst also learning about recycling, community engagement and financial literacy.
Over the next 2 months, scouts will collect containers to fundraise for their scouting groups through the CDS Vic scheme.
As one of the largest youth development organisations in the state, scouts are well placed to support young people to participate in the scheme. Scouting members will receive a specially designed ‘Container Champion’ badge to acknowledge their efforts.
Across the state, scouts are already playing a key role in the scheme by running 12 refund collection points. The scout run sites have processed more than 13 million containers since the scheme commenced on 1 November last year and this number is set to grow in the coming months as part of this new competition.
Scout groups will also have the chance to win Anaconda vouchers valued up to $2,500, as well as more than $2,500 to attend the Australian Jamboree 2025, in Maryborough, Queensland.
