New Appointments to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court

Attorney-General Martin Pakula today announced the appointment of the Honourable Justice Stephen Kaye to the Court of Appeal and the Honourable Associate Justice Rita Zammit to the Supreme Court.

Justice Kaye’s appointment follows the appointment of the Honourable Justice Geoffrey Nettle to the High Court of Australia. Associate Justice Zammit’s appointment follows the resignation of the Honourable Justice Katharine Williams.

Justice Kaye brings a wealth of knowledge to the Court of Appeal with more than 40 years of experience in law, having graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Law with First Class Honours in 1974.

Justice Kaye was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 1991 and was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2003. The appointment of Associate Justice Zammit as a Judge of the Supreme Court will be effective from 14 February 2015.

Associate Justice Zammit graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours in 1995.

Her Honour began her law career as a solicitor with Minter Ellison in 1996, and has been an Associate Judge of the Supreme Court for the past five years.
