The Allan Labor Government and the Victorian Multicultural Commission are honouring and celebrating the work of the individuals and organisations who have made extraordinary contributions to a united Victoria.
Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt and VMC Chairperson, Vivienne Nguyen, tonight celebrated the outstanding Victorians at the Multicultural Awards for Excellence, hosted by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria.
This year, there were more than 220 eligible nominees across 14 award categories including Arts, Business & Employment, Emergency Services, Local Government, Media, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Police, Prevention of Family Violence, Refugee Awards, Sport, and Youth Leadership.
The Wyndham Central College Community Hub, which offers programs that enhance family capacity, student outcomes, and community partnerships including language courses and culture support services, took out the Premier’s Award for Community Harmony.
The Refugee Young Leader Award was awarded to Diba Jalal, a passionate woman in STEM who has revitalized Afghan cultural events and inspired young engineers through her work with the Victorian Afghan Students Association and RMIT’s Afghan Student Association.
Recognising the vital role that multicultural individuals have played to keep our communities safe and connected, 25 Victorians were inducted into the Multicultural Honour Roll.
