The Allan Labor Government is backing sport clubs across the state with grants to help more people get involved in the sports they love.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced that 875 grants will go to more than 740 clubs, who will share in more than $1.2 million from the Sporting Club Grants Program.

These grants support clubs to purchase uniforms and equipment, upskill volunteers, coaches and officials, and improve their accessibility and engagement with local communities.

Surfing Victoria has scored $5,000 to boost their Surfers Rescue 24/7 Boardriders Club Program, which-provides board rescue, first aid and CPR courses in Torquay, Phillip Island and the Mornington Peninsula. This is vital training for surfers that is crucial in emergency situations and can save lives.

The latest grants are also backing local athletes go even further with Victorian International Optimist Dinghy Association scoring $4,500 for travel, accommodation and registrations costs for six athletes to compete in a sailing championship in Queensland next year - the Australian Optimist Championships.

The Sporting Club Grants Program has provided more than $18 million to thousands of community sport and recreation clubs across the state over the past decade.

The program is backed by the Regional Community Sport Development Fund which is delivering infrastructure upgrades and other programs including the Regional Community Sport Infrastructure Fund so more regional Victorians can get active and be part of their local sporting club.

From playground redevelopments to new sporting precincts, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible places for Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation.
