The Andrews Labor Government is delivering more social housing for disadvantaged people in Dandenong and Newport, with funding of almost $5 million.

Minister for Consumer Affairs Marlene Kairouz today toured a site in Dandenong where the Labor Government is partnering with Housing Choices Australia to build 19 new dwellings.

The site is within walking distance of Dandenong CBD and train station, and will provide long-term affordable housing for vulnerable tenants, including people with disabilities, older persons and people escaping family violence.

Housing Choices Australia (HCA) has received $4.9 million in grants from the Victorian Property Fund (VPF) to develop the underutilised sites in Dandenong and Newport.

The Newport project will see five two-bedroom townhouses built with easy access to local shops, public transport and support services.

Housing Choices Australia will oversee both redevelopments, which are both expected to commence in the second half of 2018 and be completed by mid-2019.

The VPF is maintained by the interest on estate agents’ and conveyancers’ trust accounts and investment income. It is used to finance community-led property projects across Victoria.
