Drivers in Melbourne’s south-east are a step closer to the congestion busting Mordialloc Freeway, with two contractors now shortlisted to start works on the new freeway.

CPB/Seymour Whyte Joint Venture and McConnell Dowell/Decmil Joint Venture have been shortlisted to submit tenders for the $375 million project.

The Andrews Labor Government has listened to the community and will build this important new connection to a freeway standard, reducing congestion and providing more reliable travel times.

The nine-kilometre freeway will link the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village, creating a continuous connection from Frankston.

The four-lane freeway will feature entry and exit ramp interchanges at Springvale Road, Governor Road, Lower Dandenong Road and Centre Dandenong Road.

Drivers will benefit from travel time savings of up to 10 minutes in each direction between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Dingley Bypass.

The new Mordialloc Bypass will divert tens of thousands of vehicles from nearby arterial roads, giving local roads back to local residents.

A new Thames Promenade interchange will be built, making it easier for drivers to access the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and a new shared user path will be built along the entire length, offering a safer route for cyclists and pedestrians.

Major construction is expected to start in 2019 and be completed by the end of 2021.
