Mildura Riverfront Development Powers Ahead

Mildura locals and visitors to the celebrated city on the Murray will have a more vibrant and accessible CBD and riverfront to enjoy, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas was today joined by representatives from the Mildura Rural City Council to tour much-anticipated riverside works underway at the site known as the Powerhouse Precinct.

The $5.5 million Powerhouse Precinct is the second stage of the Mildura riverfront development and includes the revitalisation of the existing building and the creation of a village square, with a visitor kiosk, cafe, outdoor area, public amenities and car park.

The Labor Government’s core $5 million investment in the project came from the $2.7 billion Building Works fund, established last year to stimulate jobs and investment across the state in response to the economic impacts of coronavirus. This was on top of an initial $500,000 investment through the Regional Infrastructure Fund.

The project’s early works have started, including the construction of pathways throughout the village square area, and the designs have been endorsed by the council.

Construction of the main village is due to start mid-year, with a new car park and roundabout on Hugh King Drive expected to be completed by the middle of 2022.

The early works package for the revitalisation of the Powerhouse building have been approved, with internal works expected to start mid-year.

Building Works projects provide immediate and long-lasting benefits to communities across the state, with more than half of the projects in rural and regional Victoria. For more information, visit rdv.vic.gov.au/resources.
