On behalf of the Andrews Labor government, I extend my best wishes to Victorians celebrating Eid al-Adha starting today.
Eid al-Adha is known as the Festival of Sacrifice and is a very important date on the Islamic calendar, commemorating Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to God.
Eid al-Adha is a time Muslims get together with family to celebrate. It is a time to reflect, a time of peace, a time of generosity, a time for Muslims to think of those less fortunate than themselves and offer a hand where they can.
Victoria’s Muslim community is a vibrant one which has offered much to our state over the years, and will continue to make great contributions to Victoria in the years ahead. They are a vital part of the multicultural society we know and love.
For those Victorians travelling to Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage, I wish you safe travels.
Eid Mubarak.
