Local tennis and netball stars in Indigo Shire are set to benefit with new courts now complete at Barnawartha Recreation Reserve and Chiltern Tennis Club, made possible by the Allan Labor Government.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today visited Barnawartha Recreation Reserve and Chiltern Tennis Club venues to launch the new courts, backed by the Labor Government’s $790,000 investment through the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Barnawartha Tigers’ netballers and local tennis players now have two new multipurpose courts at Barnawartha Recreation Reserve to take their game to the next level.

The upgrades also feature new court lighting, two player shelters, spectator seating and removable posts for both sports, creating better facilities for players and spectators.

The expansion at Chiltern Tennis Club includes two new courts complete with LED court lighting for club competitions as well as new fencing and improved drainage.

With more than 50 tennis members and a growing number of juniors taking up the game, the new lights mean Chiltern Tennis Club can provide more programs including Hot Shots Tennis for juniors.

The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is investing more than $23 million to provide world class community sports infrastructure and initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local sport.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested more than $2.3 billion into community sport and active recreation infrastructure.

Minister Spence also acknowledged Indigo Shire Council’s more than $460,000 contribution for both projects along with the Chiltern Tennis Club contribution of $10,000 and Barnawartha Netball Club $5,000 to their court projects.
