One of India’s top tech companies is expanding its operations in Victoria, in another win for the state’s growing cyber security sector.
Minister for Economic Development Tim Pallas today announced that Wipro Limited will establish a state-of-the-art, $1.5 million Cyber Defence Centre in South Melbourne where local tech experts will help to protect organisations from cyber-attacks.
Supported by the Andrews Labor Government, the investment will create up to 100 new tech jobs, including internship opportunities for Victorian university graduates pursuing a career in cyber security.
The Centre will help the company service its clients across a range of sectors, including financial services, telecommunications, energy and utilities, as well as Government organisations.
The establishment of the Centre by Wipro further deepens the investment relationship between India and Victoria, which is supported by the Labor Government’s 10-year India Strategy – our Shared Future.
Wipro is a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company and one of India’s top five listed technology companies by revenue. It has more than 175,000 employees serving clients across six continents and has been operating in Melbourne for over 15 years.
The company has fostered strong relationships with Victoria’s tertiary sector, including establishing the Swinburne-Wipro Chair on Artificial Intelligence with Swinburne University.
Melbourne is Australia’s leading tech city, as confirmed by the Savills Research Tech Cities in Motion global report released earlier this year.
Victoria’s thriving tech and ICT sector employs more than 137,900 people across more than 19,300 businesses, generating $36.6 billion in annual revenue.
It has a world-renowned cyber security ecosystem and is home to organisations such as the Oceania Cyber Security Centre and CSIRO’s Data61 research centre.
