The Allan Labor Government is working with councils and communities to improve air quality in Melbourne’s west, with works set to get underway to seal roads in Altona, Brooklyn North and Yarraville.
The $5 million investment to seal roads in the west and reduce dust pollution was part of the 2023-24 Victorian Budget.
In Altona North, sections of Ross Road will be upgraded, and new on-road parking bays will be provided at Paisley Park soccer complex for safer access to community facilities. A new shared path will also be built linking Blenheim Road and Mills Street, along with fencing between the road and rail line.
In Yarraville, along Francis Street from Whitehall Street to Spotswood Pier will undergo sealing works to create a smoother, cleaner road for the growing local community.
The southern end of Old Geelong Road in Brooklyn North will also be sealed, including a new intersection to cater for the Brooklyn landfill facility.
The local road works follow on from recommendations made by Air Pollution in Melbourne’s Inner West – taking direct action to reduce our community exposure report.
The Inner West Air Quality Community Reference Group assembled representatives from the community and local councils to investigate and better understand local air pollution issues, concerns, and sources across Melbourne’s inner west in the Brimbank, Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong local government areas.
Across Melbourne’s west the Labor Government is investing $20 billion in transformational projects, making it an even better place to live and work.
