The Andrews Labor Government is helping Ballarat manufacturers grow and innovate – supporting the creation of new jobs in the region.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll visited MaxiTRANS in Wendouree to announce the new Ballarat Manufacturing Cluster – part of a state-wide scheme to boost the capability of regional manufacturers.

The initiative will give local manufacturers access to programs that boost productivity and competitiveness, and help them embrace innovation, adopt new skills and develop trade and supply chain opportunities.

MaxiTRANS is Australia’s leading supplier of road transport equipment for the general freight, temperature controlled freight and bulk transport market sectors.

The program will harness the existing strengths of the region and connect businesses with manufacturing networks and local organisations.

The initiative will be delivered by the Labor Government, in partnership with the Australian Industry Group, and will be overseen by a committee made up of relevant local stakeholders.

There are more than 500 manufacturing businesses in the Ballarat region, employing approximately 7,600 people.

The Labor Government has already committed over $110 million in manufacturing support, creating over 4,000 jobs and driving more than $1.4 billion in private investment across the State.

The latest figures show that Victoria’s Performance of Manufacturing Index has expanded for 13 consecutive months – the longest run of expansion for more than 14 years.
