Early works on the Andrews Labor Government’s Yan Yean Road Upgrade are now underway, bringing the community closer to a safer and less congested connection between Diamond Creek Road and Kurrak Road.

Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan and Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green today announced the start of works on the $131 million upgrade.

The project will include works to widen the road from one to two lanes in each direction and upgrades to key intersections at Diamond Creek Road, Kurrak Road, Memorial Drive and River Avenue.

Locals will start to see crews on site as the contractor prepares the area ahead of major construction in 2018.

The upgrade will include a continuous centre median to prevent head-on crashes, straightening the road to improve driver visibility and new service roads to allow residents to safely access their properties.

There will also be new off-road cycling and pedestrian paths along the length of the upgraded road.

The improvements will ease traffic congestion and improve travel times, while making the road safer for local drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Work on stage one is scheduled for completion in mid-2019.

Located in the growing northern suburbs of Melbourne, Yan Yean Road experiences significant congestion, with up to 24,000 drivers relying on the road every day.

Investigations are currently underway to inform scope and designs for the second stage of the upgrade north of Kurrak Road.
