The Victorian Government is ensuring people who need support have a safe and secure place to call home - providing Victorians in the greater Geelong region with a foundation to rebuild their lives and thrive.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne today announced the completion of twenty-six new homes, the first completed homes under the Government’s $209 million investment to build 1,000 new public housing properties.

Located in Norlane, the one and two bedroom properties meet modern design standards, include landscaping and are consistent with the local neighbourhood characteristics.

All homes are 7 star energy rated, meaning they are more comfortable and energy-efficient during the winter and summer months, saving tenants on their power bills.

The properties are already delivering benefits with people on the priority waiting list of the Victorian Housing Register having moved into many of the homes.

A further 36 new homes are expected to be completed in the Greater Geelong region over the next year thanks to the 1000 homes program.

The program will provide around 1,800 Victorians with homes that are close to shops, schools and transport and part of vibrant and well-connected neighbourhoods.

Properties will include a mix of bedroom types in line with the needs of people on the Victorian Housing Register with 800 one and two-bedroom homes and 200 three-bedroom properties. All properties are on track to be completed by 2022.

The program builds on the Government’s record investment in social housing including the $1 billion Social Housing Growth Fund, as well as a $500 million maintenance and upgrade stimulus package and $150 million homelessness support package in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
