Statement from the Premier
While my 14-day housing “week” has come to an end…this is just the beginning.
Every week will be an opportunity to build homes, drive change and fight the status quo.
Every week will be an opportunity to listen to locals and bring Victorians with us.
Every week will be an opportunity to get millennials into homes and give them the chances their parents had.
We have a lot to get on with:
More homes near train stations by delivering 50 new activity centres
Off-the-plan tax concessions to build more homes to buy or rent
More local infrastructure funding where more homes are built
A ten-year pipeline of land for family homes and backyards
A tough new building watchdog for buyer peace of mind
More townhouses in the suburbs thanks to easier subdivisions
More social homes in the regions and a boost for regional councils
Fast tracking the buildings that are designed and built the best
$30 million for more parks and upgrades – and you tell us where it goes
Even more rights for renters to make the system fairer
And much, much more – including thousands of social and affordable homes, and Australia’s largest housing project: the Suburban Rail Loop.
We’ve already made Victoria the number one state in Australia for approving homes – and building homes.
We can’t stop there.
There will be blockers who use fear and misinformation to lock young people out of homes and dreams.
We can’t let them win.
There’s only one way out of the housing crisis: build our way out.
And we’re getting on with it.
