The Sandown Greyhound Racing Club is hosting its Day of the Dog Series for the sixth season running, thanks to a joint funding package worth more than $230,000 supported by the Andrews Labor Government.
The Labor Government is providing nearly $98,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund for the series, and the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club is contributing more than $134,000.
This Sunday 4 March marks the second event of the 15-race meeting series, which began on 4 February and will continue until 25 January 2019.
The Day of the Dog Series is aimed at sporting clubs and community organisations and this year’s package will feature free shuttle buses to and from the track for groups of 20 or more people.
Clubs and their guests who join in the festivities will enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival and finger food throughout the day.
Children will also be entertained by roving performers, face painters and lots of other fun activities.
The series is expected to be a success, with crowd attendance quadrupling since it was first introduced in 2012-13.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has contributed more than $775,000 towards one infrastructure project and 22 greyhound racing events at Sandown Park.
The racing industry in the metropolitan Melbourne region generates more than $1.5 billion annually for the Victorian economy and helps sustain more than 13,590 full-time jobs locally.
