An innovative partnership between the Allan Labor Government, Launch Housing and Banyule City Council has delivered 58 new homes for Victorians who need them most.
Minister for Housing Harriet Shing and Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines today visited the newly completed $25.2 million housing development in Bellfield – part of the Labor Government’s landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.
Community housing provider Launch Housing developed the site on vacant land owned by the Banyule City Council, on a 50-year lease. The development has been funded by Homes Victoria and Launch Housing and has created more than 225 jobs during its construction.
The homes will be managed by Launch Housing and allocated to households on the Victorian Housing Register, the common entry point for social housing in Victoria for applicants who have established a priority need for housing.
The 58 new homes will be modern, comfortable, and energy-efficient – located beside Banyule City Council’s new community hub – close to shops, Ford Park, transport, and schools and services in the heart of Bellfield.
An additional feature of this development is a showcase of Wild Blak Arts Aboriginal works created by Cassie Fisher-Patterson from the Taungurung/Dja Dja Wurrung people from the Kulin Nation.
The Labor Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build is the largest single investment in social and affordable housing by any state or territory government in Australia’s history.
More than 7,600 much-needed new social and affordable homes have been completed or are underway and we are on track to deliver at least 12,000 homes and create more than 40,000 jobs.
In the City of Banyule alone, more than $125 million has been invested under the Big Housing Build to create 290 new homes.
Through the Big Housing Build, the landmark Housing Statement and the partnership through the Commonwealth Government’s Social Housing Accelerator, the Labor Government is transforming Victoria’s housing landscape.
