The Andrews Labor Government is delivering the largest ever investment in housing across regional Victoria, ensuring our most vulnerable have a safe and secure place to call home in their local community.
Minister for Housing Richard Wynne today announced at least 150 social housing homes will be built in Ballarat creating 100 direct and 350 indirect local jobs.
With construction to start next year, the project will replace 66 of the existing ageing social housing homes at the Delacombe estate, delivering much-needed social and affordable housing in Ballarat.
Extensive community consultation will start in coming weeks, including on a master plan for the project, with residents encouraged to have a say on the final design.
The project will transform this neighbourhood through improved housing, streets and public spaces, and improved pedestrian and vehicle connectivity.
The Delacombe site adds to the Big Housing Build projects already under way at Ascot Vale, Ashburton, Flemington, Hawthorn, Heidelberg West and North Richmond.
The Labor Government’s landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build – the largest single investment in social and affordable housing in Australia’s history – is delivering more than 12,000 new homes across Victoria.
This historic investment will boost Victoria’s social housing supply by 10 per cent, while creating 10,000 jobs per year over the next four years.
The Big Housing Build is investing $1.25 billion in regional areas – ensuring the economic and social benefits of the program are felt in communities across the state. A minimum of $80 million will be invested in the Ballarat area.
