The Allan Labor Government will cut red tape by slashing the number of business regulators in half – making it easier for businesses to start up, grow and create new jobs.
Launching Victoria’s Economic Growth Statement today, Premier Jacinta Allan announced the Government will halve the number of business regulators by 2030 – combining regulators and streamlining systems for industry.
Currently, Victoria has 37 regulators – creating needless headaches and holding businesses back. We'll cut that number to at least 18 – meaning Victoria will have the lowest number of business regulators of any state.
This change will make it easier for businesses to work with government, offering clearer points of contact, less paperwork, fewer processes – and fewer forms.
This follows feedback from industry leaders who made it clear that by cutting red tape, we’ll give businesses more time to focus on what they do best – creating jobs and growing our economy.
The Government will start reducing regulators by focusing on the construction and food industries, with a roadmap to halve the number of business regulators by 2030 to be released next year.
Together with the raft of reforms set out in the Statement and across government, this change will save businesses $500 million over the next five years.
In addition to halving regulators, this $500 million target will be achieved by reducing double up, speeding up and digitising application processes, and removing unnecessary permits.
The announcement is part of the Economic Growth Statement, which lays out our actions for a stronger economy, and a stronger future with more opportunities for business, workers and families.
Centred around four key actions and five key priority sectors, it contains a raft of initiatives to make it easier to start and grow a business in Victoria.
