The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to boost the economy, by backing a new crane safety training course in Port Campbell.

The Port Campbell Jetty Crane Safety Awareness Course is for locals and visitors to learn how to operate the unique Port Campbell jetty crane – the only one of its kind in Victoria.

Commissioned in 2011, the jetty crane is used by boat operators to safely place their vessels into the water without the need for a boat ramp.

A total of $6,000 has been invested into the course to ensure more people are equipped with the skills they need to operate the crane and safely launch and retrieve their boats.

Port Campbell is one of Victoria’s key local ports - home to an important crayfish and abalone industry, a fishing and boating hub of the Shipwreck Coast and the closest town to the world-famous Twelve Apostles.

As the local port manager for Port Campbell, Parks Victoria has worked with ATS Rail and Construction Training to develop the new and more comprehensive crane safety course.

The investment is the latest in Port Campbell’s thriving tourism and fishing economy. More than 2.7 million people visit the Twelve Apostles every year, with the Shipwreck Coast proving a vital economic engine for south-west Victoria.

It also compliments an $18 million package for rebuilding and maintenance works to be carried out on piers and jetties across Victoria from the Victorian Budget 2022-23.
