Cool Change For Public Housing In Northern Victoria

Public housing tenants in Mildura, Ouyen and Red Cliffs are benefiting from access to appropriate air conditioning thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s Social Housing Energy Efficiency Program.

Two thousand energy-efficient split system units are being installed in public housing homes in the state’s hottest towns across northern Victoria.

More than 110 units have already been installed, with 500 to be in place by the end of June 2021 including in Mildura Rural City, Campaspe Shire and Greater Shepparton City local government areas.

The air conditioning instillation is part of the Labor Governments $112 million investment to improve the energy efficiency of 35,000 social housing properties by upgrading heating, cooling, and hot water appliances, as well as sealing windows and doors and installing insulation.

These upgrades are saving tenants money on their energy bills and improving the amenity and comfort of public housing homes, while delivering significant environmental benefits.

The Energy Efficiency in Social Housing Program is part of the $797 million Household Energy Savings Package – the biggest household energy efficiency package of any Australian state. This exciting package will support around 4,000 jobs and ensure no Victorians are left behind in the state’s energy transition.
