Chairperson Appointed For The Adult Parole Board

The Victorian Government has appointed Judge Helen Syme as Chairperson of the Adult Parole Board – starting in the role today.

Minister for Corrections Enver Erdogan congratulated Judge Syme on her appointment, recognising her previous service as a member and sessional Chairperson of the Board since November 2023.

During a judicial career spanning 35 years, Judge Syme has served on the Mental Health Tribunal and acted as deputy chair of the Post Sentence Authority.

Judge Syme has also served as a reserve judge in the criminal jurisdiction of the County Court of Victoria in Melbourne and regional courts from February 2022 to October 2024.

She was a judge of the NSW District Court, the Deputy Chief Magistrate of NSW, and a magistrate in the Family Court of WA and the Children’s Court of WA.

Judge Syme replaces the previous Chairperson, his Honour David Fanning who has served on the Board since 2022 and as a member since 2013.
