The Andrews Labor Government is helping Shepparton manufacturers grow, innovate and create jobs.
Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll today visited Rubicon Water to announce the Shepparton Manufacturing Cluster – part of a $5 million state-wide scheme to boost the capability of regional manufacturers.
The initiative will give local manufacturers access to programs that boost productivity and competitiveness, and help them embrace innovation, adopt new skills and develop trade and supply chain opportunities.
The cluster will harness the strengths of local businesses and connect them with other manufacturing organisations. There are more than 270 manufacturing businesses in the Shepparton region, employing more than 3,000 people.
It will be delivered by the Labor Government in partnership with the Australian Industry Group, and will be overseen by a committee made up of relevant local stakeholders.
Rubicon Water is an engineering and technology company providing specialised products and services that enable water authorities to manage their operations and water resources more efficiently.
The company’s services include the design and manufacture of highly engineered water control gates and precision water measurement instrumentation that is combined with wireless communications networks, advanced monitoring and control software to serve both the irrigation and municipal water industries.
Its research and development facility includes the largest hydraulic flow and testing laboratory of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Labor Government has already committed over $120 million in manufacturing support – creating over 6,000 jobs and driving more than $1.6 billion in private investment.
Australian Industry Group figures show that Victoria’s Performance of Manufacturing Index has grown for 16 consecutive months, the longest run of expansion since 2001.
