The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with delivering quality social and affordable homes in Ascot Vale, building homes for those who need it most.
Minister for Housing Colin Brooks today unveiled the new $104 million development at Ascot Vale, which has created more than 800 jobs across the two years of construction.
At the site, 80 old walk-ups have been replaced by 200 modern, comfortable and accessible one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes and five fully accessible apartments for people with disability.
Managed by Evolve Housing, 100 social housing homes will provide safety and security for victim-survivors, people living with mental health challenges and other individuals and families in need.
A further 100 homes will be available through the Affordable Housing Rental Scheme and directly help low-income workers including disability workers, cleaners and healthcare workers. Under the scheme, these homes will provide an alternative to the private rental market – delivered at less than 10 per cent of Melbourne’s average market rent.
This development forms part of the Labor Government’s landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build, and sets new benchmarks in quality, comfort and energy-efficient social and affordable homes.
The Ascot Vale site is just one of over 900 sites currently funded by the Labor Government as part of Big Housing Build, on track to deliver more than 12,000 new homes by 2026.
The Big Housing Build has created more than 30,000 jobs, providing a vital boost to local and regional economies.
