The Andrews Labor Government has moved ahead with the construction of a new Beaconsfield CFA station with the purchase of a site.
The block of land in Woods St, Beaconsfield cost $1 million dollars and will be home to a brand new station, as part of the CFA's capital works program.
Minister for Emergency Services, Jane Garrett, said the new CFA station will be a major improvement for firefighters and the local community, which is at significant risk of fires.
The Beaconsfield project was on the CFA priority list and was due to go ahead in 2013 under the previous Liberal Government, but the funding was instead used for a CFA station in Warrnambool.
Planning and tenders for the new station will be underway within months, with plans to begin construction in February next year and completion by the following October in time for the fire season.
