Public housing tenants in Ballarat will benefit from a $10 million upgrade to the Delacombe housing estate, thanks to an Andrews Labor Government boost to regional public housing.
Minister for Housing Martin Foley visited Ballarat today to announce the upgrade, which will improve the estate on Leawarra Crescent – delivering better public spaces and connections to surrounding neighbourhoods.
To ensure local residents are given a say in the planned upgrade, a Community Consultation Committee will be established with local community leaders, residents and council to inform the planning of the project.
The Labor Government is working with the City of Ballarat, the local community and tenants to design and deliver the improvements.
The first stage of the housing estate upgrade project will give local residents, tenants and the surrounding community an opportunity to have their say on what they love about the area and what they think should change.
The Department of Health and Human Services will provide support and assistance for tenants to participate in this process.
The upgrade is part of a $30 million public housing boost in regional Victoria bh the Labor Government, and builds on an ongoing program of suburban improvement the City of Ballarat is completing across the estate, which has included the $65 million Delacombe Town Centre shopping and entertainment complex.
The Labor Government has provided over $1 billion in housing and homelessness support to intervene early, get those at risk of homelessness housed quickly and help them maintain that housing.
