The Andrews Labor Government is giving the green light to a $1 billion activity centre in Sunshine to create jobs and housing in Melbourne’s west.

Minister for Planning Richard Wynne has approved the Sunshine Activity Centre Zone to encourage more local jobs and support development around the existing Sunshine town centre.

The precinct unlocks 19 hectares for mixed-use development, which is expected to generate more than $1 billion in investment, generate hundreds of jobs and reinforce Sunshine as the economic heart of Melbourne’s West.

Mr Wynne said Sunshine would become a prime shopping and industry centre, which will mean more people can live closer to their jobs and services.

The precinct will be positioned to take advantage of the multi-billion dollar Regional Rail Link and upgrades to Sunshine Railway Station, ensuring people in Sunshine can travel quicker to Melbourne and across Victoria.

The Labor Government will drive smart development in activity centres such as Sunshine. This means providing for our growing population and reducing urban sprawl by building a better mix of housing options and promoting jobs within walking distance of public transport.
