Victorian Industry Minister, Lily D’Ambrosio, today attended the line-off ceremony at Toyota’s Altona plant, as the new-look Camry rolled off the production line.

The Altona plant will this year produce around 90,000 vehicles and is one of nine facilities in the world producing the Camry and one of only six capable of making the hybrid version.

Representing Premier Daniel Andrews, Ms D’Ambrosio congratulated Toyota and its 2,500-strong Altona plant workforce on the launch of the new Camry, with around three-quarters planned for export mainly to the Middle East.

Ms D’Ambrosio said the Victorian Government was committed to the successful transition and diversification of Victoria’s automotive industry.

The Andrews Labor Government is working with industry, including automotive manufacturers, to create jobs and reinforce Victoria as a centre of excellence for advanced manufacturing.

The Government’s Back to Work plan will create 100,000 jobs, boost traditional industries and invest in six emerging sectors, growing the economy now and into the future.
