Melbourne’s Free Tram Zone will be extended to stops near the MCG for four days, making it easier and cheaper to enjoy all that the 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final Week has to offer.
Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, joined General Manager – Clubs & AFL Operations, Travis Auld, today to announce that services from the CBD to stops 9, 10 and 11 on Wellington Street near the ‘G’ would be free from Wednesday morning to midnight on Grand Final day.
The Free Tram Zone will also be extended to stops 7a and 7b at Rod Laver and stop 7c at MCG/Hisense Arena on the other side of the MCG to get fans from the city to the footy free of charge.
The extended Free Tram Zone will coincide with the free Foxtel Footy Festival, running from Wednesday 30 September to Saturday 3 October.
The centrepiece of the festival is the free Live Site at Yarra Park, that will host the Kids Zone, musicians, interactive displays and activities, media identities and giveaways, and is the end point for this year’s Grand Final Parade.
On Grand Final Friday and Saturday, train, tram and bus services will operate to a Saturday timetable, with additional metropolitan and V/Line services. Fares on both days will be capped at $6 for travel across all modes in Melbourne.
